Process facilitation enables groups of people to think more clearly, efficiently and systematically.  The objective is to achieve both quality and speed within deadline.  Facilitators do this by:
  • ensuring clarity of task;
  • providing a process (thinking framework) appropriate to that task;
  • making effective use of facilitation and group skills during the session;
  • practicing good time management, and
  • encouraging full participation.
Process facilitation is supportive, focused on results, reality-based, flexible, visible and clear.  It is not manipulative, focused on win/lose, or based on a single model.

The role of the facilitator can be compared to that of a coach - an individual who provides a winning environment and an effective playbook, enabling the group to function as a team, at peak performance.
